Imagine if you can the following scenario…..Zero
7 are kidnapped by Boards of Canada and held captive
in Lee Perry’s Studio…. Got it? Then you’re
somewhere near the sound of Bathysphere’s ‘Daylight
Shrubbery’ EP.
The Bathysphere production team have re-emerged from
their murky subterranean studio for the first time since
their highly praised outings on the first two Deep-Water
EPs where DJ Magazine described them as ‘…heavy
in weight, low in tempo and deep in sub-base. A highly
seductive offering..’
‘Daylight Shrubbery’ remains intensely horizontal
throughout it’s lo-speed journey through a lush
and crunchy world of pure rhythmic atmosphere. The EP
opens with the epic ‘Augusta’ which simmers
with glitched strings, no-skool beats and a bassline
intent on ripping cones. ‘Handsome’ and
‘Take My advice’ follow in similar late
night vein until Pork’s inimitable Leggo Beast
drags them from their musical sofa onto the dancefloor
with his jazzed-up reworking of ‘Augusta’.
How deep?
