Format : 12" Vinyl
Release Date: 12th May 2003
Deep-Water set out their 2003 store with this classy
smattering of electronic downbeat. Each track is taken
from the label’s first CD long-playing compilation
of the same name which features a host of past glories
and new discoveries alike…..err…….meanwhile,
back to the EP –
NORMAL
POSITION – ‘Altered’ cunningly
sets the stage with it’s trademark melodic-meets-glitch
funk-tronica theme. Look out for the Normal’s
escalating Position throughout 2003 as they prepare
for their first national tour and their own EP in June
and their debut long-player, ‘Rave killed the
Romance’ ,due on Deep-Water in the autumn.
CHIN
CHIN aka Frankie Binns joins the Deep-Water
sub-aquatic stable with this sublime offering of wistful
and intricate downbeat. This horizontal piano-led track
calls to mind the likes of Bonobo and Sigur Ros. Bottoms
up
MONKEY
MAGIC kicks of side B with a cheeky slice
of funk-action in the form of ‘Be Flat’.
Still wearing his ‘I was single of the month in
Ministry Magazine’ badge from last year the Monkey
(aka Steve Gasgarth) pitches his sound somewhere in
the Viberty Scruffesque vain. Suitably heavy DJ rotation
is expected at the more discerning disco establishments
across the land.
PSAPP
close the door to the indoor shed with their intricate
and intimate ‘Scissory’. Their crunchy acoustica
sound lies somewhere between that of Mathew Herbert
and Mum and features Galia Durant on inspirational form
on lead vocal-chords.
