no. DWEP009
Format : 12" Vinyl
Release Date : March 2004
Big things are on the cards for Normal Position and
their label Deep-Water Recordings this year…..first
up is this very amazing EP , of truly amazing music
taken from their really amazing debut long player ‘Rave
Killed the Romance’.
The title track ‘Boyfriends Car’ melds twitching
up-tempo glitch-hop with behind-the-bike-shed vocals
(courtesy of new collaborator and old friend, TC). One
for the dancefloor booty shakers and the chin stroking
electronica heads alike.
Next up is ‘Gobby’ – a sliced up gargle
n’ burp fest constructed mainly from the sillier
noises made by a human mouth. The result brings a human
warmth to the often cold and teutonic electro sound.
Burpsoul?
‘Koi Koi Pips’ takes the tempo down a few
notches and provides the EP with a beautiful shimmering
melodic track. Warped xylophones, children’s toys
and spanish guitar combine together fluidly. A track
to play your children to sleep – if you could
be arsed to get off the sofa and have some.
‘Chewits’ closes the 12” – and
continues the downtempo mood. With swelling, filtered
breaks rolling over stretched elastic vinyl crackle
and deep soulful melodies this sound track-esque offering
marries the beauty of a child running through a open
meadow, with the potential menace of an approaching
minefield. Ouch!!
