Chin
Chin are Frankie Binns, TC and Chris Cousin
(aka SofaLofa
on AI records) and officially launch their Deep-Water
dingy with these sublime offerings of wistful and intricate
downbeat folk-tinged electronica. The debut long-player
'Shallow Dive', due
in the new year on Deep-Water, is set to empty dance
floors across the globe as listeners head for their
sofas and flotation tanks to soak up the extremes of
lo_tempo trickery it contains. Their sound nods at the
likes of Four_tet and Matthew Herbert, but with an intimate
acoustic tinge, garnered from years of playing live.
Their roots in live performance are sunk deep into loungecore-folk,
but since stumbling across one of those computer things
the ‘-tronica’ element has been added. Chin
Chin are very much live performers, shaping manipulated
live textures with slices of guitar, piano, melodica
and, of course, the amazing vocal tones of TC. This
year’s shows at The Big Chill and Summer Sundae
festivals were lo_temo hi_lights of the highest order.
Essex boys turned Teutonic electronica legends ISAN
of Morr Music fame couldn’t help getting their
scissors stuck into shallow dive managing to find the
time to craft a remix of true beauty in between performances
in Berlin and Japan.
This release, and the album ‘Shallow Dive’
(released March ‘05) are supported by specially
commissioned videos produced by Bathysphere and a series
of live shows (check press for details)
